You probably know that it's bad to pick at your pimples or skip sunscreen, but some of your seemingly-innocent daily habits might be affecting your skin and you don't even know it. At the gym, on vacation and even at your office, there may be some habits you could change to keep your skin looking young longer.
Culprit #1: Tension
When you are lifting weights at the gym or holding a particular pilates pose, is your face scrunched up? Tension in the jaw and throat makes the cords of your neck more prominent and pulls down the face, according to Allure Magazine. Ease up to keep your face looking smooth.
Culprit #2: Heat
You know you need sunscreen products when heading outside, but even your fireplace or the space heater at work can damage your collagen, the magazine reports. Direct exposure - from about 2 or 3 feet away - causes redness in your skin and a breakdown of collagen, which invites wrinkles. You can still warm up, just sit at least 10 feet away.
Culprit #3: Water bottles
If you're chugging water, you're doing your skin a favor, but you might want to rethink your water's receptacle. Plastic bottles and cups with straws means you are constantly pursing your lips, which can create lines and enhance existing wrinkles around your mouth. Instead, drink out of a glass, open-top bottle or a squeezable bottle that you can squirt into your mouth. To erase existing damage, try anti aging skincare products like the Elemis Pro-Intense Eye and Lip Contour Cream.
