The 5 easy steps for youthful eyes

The 5 easy steps for youthful eyes

You may have never thought it would happen to you, but all of a sudden when you look in the mirror, the only thing you see are crow's feet, dark circles and puffy bags. Unfortunately, these signs of aging happen to everyone, and the eye area, with its especially thin, sensitive skin, takes the brunt of the damage.

Fortunately, there are still ways to promote youthful eyes. Try these five steps to tighten up existing eye wrinkles and prevent further damage.

Step 1: Amp up your eye cream
It might be time to upgrade the products you use around your eyes, especially if you're not using anything! It's also important to slather something on before bed. The night is a crucial time to medicate your skin because your body temperature rises, allowing the ingredients to seep more deeply into the skin. Pick an anti aging skincare product like Elemis Pro-Collagen Eye Renewal and dab it on before bed - the amino acids, beta carotene and vitamins in this formula smooth fine lines, support collagen and restructure damaged skin.

Step 2: Add antioxidants
Does your moisturizer have antioxidants? As important as eye cream is at night, it's critical during the day, too, to prevent free radical damage from the sun and air pollution, both of which can cause wrinkles. Look for a daytime eye cream with antioxidants, like Laboratoire Remède Alchemy Advanced Eye Crème, which has vitamins A, C and E.

Step 3: Seek out a serum
A serum - the product that is applied between your cleanser and moisturizer - might not have been necessary when you were younger, but it's a must if you're trying to turn back time around your eyes. Try one like Freeze 24-7 Anti-Aging Eye Serum, which lifts, firms and tones the delicate eye area with natural extracts.

Step 4: Dab, don't rub
Concealer is great for hiding those dark circles (get yellow-based makeup products if you have bluish circles and a peachy hue if they are more brown) but the way you apply it matters, too. Instead of rubbing it in, dab around the eye area until it's completely blended. This encourages the fluid that causes those puffy bags to disperse.

Step 5: Buy new sunglasses
Finally, the motivation you needed to invest in that pair of Ray Bans you've been coveting! Really though, good sunglasses are critical to anti aging eye care. They reduce squinting while also blocking out UVA and UVB rays around the sensitive eye area.
