The 85th annual Academy Awards took place on February 24 and the biggest names in entertainment were in attendance, showing off the top trends in both style and hair. Despite the variety of dresses - there was everything from metallic frocks and larger than life ball gowns to bold colored dresses and high-neck designs - there were just a few hairstyles on display.
Parade magazine reports the bun was in full effect on the night, with stars like Emmy Rossum, Jennifer Garner and Kristin Chenoweth showing their love for this style. Hair expert Johnny Lavoy told Parade buns are a classic look that are great for all face shapes.
"Buns are one of those looks that are timeless and sort of relatable for everybody and easy for most people to do," Lavoy told the publication. "Any time the hair is swept away from the face and controlled in a uniform manner, it looks chic. Plus, it doesn't look like you're trying too hard," he says.
To rock a low bun like Garner, ladies will need to fist blow dry their locks and then use smoothing hair products to reduce frizz and flyaways. A product like Steiner Shine Drops Hair Serum 50ml could be great since this serum not only keeps frizz at bay, but also protects and repairs damage caused by heat styling.
When your locks are sleek, part your hair in the middle and then pull it back into a low ponytail. Garner's bun was a bit more styled with a braided detail, so you can opt to try this by braiding your hair and then securing it into a bun at the nape of your neck, or simply skip the braid and just go for the bun. With either option, make sure to leave a few loose strands in front to shape your face.
Romantic barrel curls
The second hot hair trend of the night was the gorgeous side swept curls, according to Cosmopolitan magazine. Leading ladies like nominee Jessica Chastain and previous Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon rocked this style perfectly.
To achieve a similar style, you'll need to first invest in a large curling iron, or opt for the healthier option of using curlers to set the waves. Even though the latter is better for your locks, it is more time consuming, so ensure you have plenty of room in your schedule before going this route.
For either process, start making curls by spraying each strand with a hair spray like Steiner Stay Put Extra Firm Finishing Spray 200 ml to keep the curls in place all day. When the curls are perfect you'll need to create an exaggerated part off to one side. On the other side, tuck your locks behind your ear. Finish the style by running a drop of smoothing serum through your locks to keep frizz at bay.
