Most women are familiar with skin care and beauty products that help prevent wrinkles, fine lines, cellulite and more. However, many might be less in tune with why certain creams and serums work to keep such imperfections at bay. Learning how skin works may help ladies better understand how products work, and even ways to keep their skin healthy through more organic outlets.
Dr. Aaron Tabor recently listed a few surprising facts about skin and outlined why it's so important people take precautions to protect the body's largest organ.
Botanicals are best
According to Tabor, botanicals, or nutrients found in plants, can greatly improve the look of skin thanks to its therapeutic properties. However, not all beauty products that claim to contain botanicals are created equally.
"Botanicals that contain beta-carotene can actually improve skin quality," Tabor told the Huffington Post. "Keep in mind that products that contain botanicals should have a color or hue to them, as botanicals have a natural color. If the product you're using claims to have botanicals in it and it is white in color, you should ditch it. The only way skincare products can be white in color is through chemicals."
WebMD reports you can also get beta-carotene from the foods you eat. Carrots, sweet potatoes, spinach, kale and fruits like cantaloupe and apricots are all tasty ways to boost this nutrient.
Face massages hold value
Getting a massage is one of the greatest feelings around - helping to ease stress and boost calming triggers in the brain. The same benefits can be felt through face massages, the expert reports. In fact, such massages work to stimulate cells in the skin, which releases collagen and helps maintain elasticity. Losing collagen can result in a sunken in look over time, so finding ways to prevent this is key.
To work the collagen and muscles in your face, trying giving yourself, or having your guy massage your complexion with Bliss products like Bliss Youth As We Know It Moisturize Cream. The cream works to exfoliate, oxygenate and improve cellular production to help you looking as young as you feel.
Let your face breathe
If your nightly routine consists of taking off your makeup, brushing your teeth and applying a night cream like the Elemis Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Night Cream, you might need to switch it up to boost the health of your skin.
Tabor reports closed pores are less absorbent, so washing your face at night and then instantly applying cream can be useless. Instead, try wetting a face cloth and laying it on your face for a few minutes to open the pores. After the allotted time, apply the cream, since it will be able to sink in deeper now.
