Always the bridesmaid: Beauty tips for the fall wedding season

Forget May and June - fall has quickly taken over as the new wedding season. Fortunately, that means you can experiment with more dramatic hair and makeup styles, whether you're the bride, the guest or always the bridesmaid.

If you're going cross-eyed while looking over your hectic agenda for the next few months, don't worry - with the right skincare products, beauty products and makeup tips, you will last through the wedding-crazed season without looking like a hot mess.

Long-lasting foundation
Since weddings tend to be all-day affairs, you want your foundation to last. To ensure long-lasting skincare, foundation should always come first. Apply a sheer, silky liquid foundation, such as the Colorscience Sheer Creme Foundation, all over the face for full coverage.

Next, target those blemishes. A color corrector, such as the Colorscience Color Corrector Palette, allows you to cover up blemishes and discoloration while also providing overall coverage that never feels heavy or weighed down. Color correctors provide heavier coverage than regular concealer, so they're perfect for those who have uneven skin. For the best coverage, apply the concealer with a brush, then blend it in with your fingertips.

Once you're done, lightly blot your face with a sponge for a matte finish that will look fresh throughout the busy day. Add a touch of moisturizer or serum here and there for extra highlighting and a dewy finish.

Think pink
Sun-kissed cheeks might be OK for spring and summer, but drop the bronzer this fall and instead pick up a light pink blush. Make a "fish face" to find your cheekbones, and apply the blush with a large brush on the apples of your cheeks, sweeping it up to the outer corners of your eyes. For an all-over glow, brush the blush just below your brow bone.

Just remember to choose a blush that's appropriate for your natural skin color. Anything too red or pink will look obvious, especially in those bridal party photos.

Go bold or go home
For a day wedding, pair a peach-based coral lipstick with smoky eyes for a striking yet not over-the-top look. When partying it up at a nighttime event, don't be afraid to layer on the dark red for a sultry, Old Hollywood vibe. A maroon-based red is very flattering - just make sure you line your lips with a matching color to keep the lipstick from bleeding  beyond your natural lip line. Downplay the darkness of the lipstick by either blotting it several times after application for a matte finish, or layer on a berry-red lipgloss for a flirty sheen.

Throughout the day, make sure you have some lipgloss on hand to freshen up without running to the ladies room every five minutes. Sheer lipglosses like Bliss Fabulips Glossy Lip Balm in Vanilla Mint will keep your lips shiny and hydrated while adding a hint of coral.

The new-wave ponytail
Securing your hair off your face will probably be your best bet if you plan on ripping up the dance floor. Try these variations of the classic ponytail for a completely modern look.

The wavy ponytail radiates a romantic aura that's appropriate for daytime weddings. First, create loose, soft curls in your hair by wrapping two-inch sections vertically around a curling iron. Holding the curling iron away from your face, count to three before you release. Once your whole head is done, gently break up the waves with your fingers and rub in a smoothing serum. When your waves are perfectly coiled, gather the hair with your hands and loosely pull it into a low ponytail. Once it's secure, tease the top of your head with your fingers, lifting pieces of your hair for extra volume and a slightly-messy look. This hairstyle also looks gorgeous when the ponytail is not directly in the back of the head but pulled to the side, letting the waves flow off your shoulder.

For a sleeker style that will surely command attention at a nighttime reception, try the "bumped" ponytail. Spray the roots at your crown with a light styling gel and back comb your hair toward the roots. This will tease the hair - and the more teasing you do, the better. Once you have a good-sized bump, gently smooth it with a comb and secure your loose hair in a mid-high ponytail. Finish the look by taking a one-inch piece of hair from your underside and wrapping it around the elastic holding your ponytail in place. Add an eye-catching sheen with an all-over spritz of Steiner Gloss Mist Shine Spray.

When both your hair and makeup are done, don't forget the finishing sprays to keep it all in place. A  hairspray like the Steiner Stay Put Extra Firm Finish Spray will tame unruly frizz and flyaways without weighing down your hair, while also adding extra volume to your curls, ponytail bump or however you choose to style your hair.

Spraying a makeup setter over your foundation, blush and eye color will hold your beauty products in place for up to 16 hours, protecting it from the sweat and tears sure to come from a wild and romantic wedding day.
