The best regimen for any skin type

Keeping your skin looking healthy and radiant requires a mixture of using the right beauty products, using them correctly and forming good daily habits. However, everyone has different skin that calls for its own treatments. If you're careful with your choices, skincare can be easy. But if you walk into the skin care section of any store, there are thousands of solutions that promise to improve and enhance your skin. The selection can be much less daunting if you follow these guidelines.

Using the right cleanser
General skin care and face care are separate because of the sensitive nature of the face. Most bar soaps are created for hand washing, not facial care. The formula is too harsh for the face and will cause your skin to dry out. According to WebMD, those who prefer bar soap for facial cleansing should avoid formulas containing sodium lauryl sulfate and opt for ones with glycerin and plant-based oils.

Liquid cleansers are typically gentler than bar soaps and some are even specially formulated to exfoliate and moisturize as well as cleanse.

Finding an exfoliator
Exfoliators can be tricky. You want to scrub off the dead skin cells without removing the healthy layer. Over-exfoliating will lead to an increase in open pores, which will absorb more of everything, from lotion, to pollutants.

According to SheKnows, there are three main types of exfoliators. First are the scrubs, which contain some form of particle that physically remove the dead skin cells. Scrubs range in gentleness depending on the size of the particles, which can be as small as ground rice or as large as salt grains. There are even scrubs with micro beads that are very gentle on the face. The second are chemical exfoliators, which are formulated to loosen and dissolve the dead skin cells. They typically use alpha-hydroxy acids. The third are enzyme exfoliators, which simply dissolve dead skin cells.

All three types of exfoliators range in gentleness. Be sure to choose the one that best fits your skin type. The Elemis Pro-Radiance Cream Cleanser 150ml is not only a great cleanser for dry skin, but also has anti-aging properties.

Staying moisturized
Your face is the most exposed part of your body, so it's important to protect it. Moisturizers work not only to keep skin hydrated, but also to keep impurities from clogging up your pores. WebMD notes that moisturizing products that have emollients and humectants are doubly beneficial. Humectants work to keep in moisture and emollients work to soften skin. This creates a moisturizing effect that also temporarily decreases fine lines.

Take care of your makeup
One of the most important rules of make up is avoiding over usage. You don't want to look like you're trying to hide something and you definitely don't want to clog up your pores.

Maintenance of makeup tools is equally important. Allure magazine points out that dirty brushes not only mess up your makeup, but can cause bacterial infections and breakouts. Suddenly, the five minutes it takes to clean your brushes doesn't seem so bad.

Cleaning off your makeup is critical. The combination of a day-long application of makeup and a few hours' worth of pollutants is a pretty unflattering mixture. So why leave it on overnight? The Bliss The Youth As We Know It Cleanser functions not only as a cleanser, but also as a makeup remover and moisturizer.

Get rid of some bad habits
Mayo Clinic states that smoking causes the tiny blood vessels that are located on the outermost layer of skin to narrow, decreasing blood flow. This keeps oxygen and nutrients from efficiently reaching your skin. It also diminishes your skin's strength and elasticity by wreaking havoc on collagen and elastin. In short, smoking causes wrinkles and makes you look older.

Allure states that junk food has been found to cause more acne, according to a study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. Take this opportunity to not only improve your skin, but your overall health.

Tanning has been a popular topic in the medical world. Though exposure to the sun is a healthy way to get some vitamin D, overdoing your time spent outdoors can cause problems such as age spots, wrinkles and skin cancer. Mayo Clinic points out that the sun's rays are the strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and suggests avoiding the sun during those hours. Considering that's a six hour window, take preventative measures if you're going to be out. Always use sunscreen, no matter what the season is.

Develop good habits
Facial care involves a lot of products, methods and practices. Good skincare should be a steady, healthy rhythm that flows into your daily practices, not a chore. If you make sure you have the products that best suit your skin type and take all the necessary precautions against environmental factors, it can become an easy and comfortable routine.
