Thick of it: how to get fuller brows

Put down those tweezers - full brows are making a comeback. The eye-catching style, made popular by fashion icons Audrey Hepburn and Brooke Shields, are currently having a moment, popping up on the hottest runways and red carpets.

If you have naturally wispy brows or spent years over-tweezing your arches to oblivion, don't fret - there are many beauty tips that can help fill in the gaps.

Pencil it in
For thin-browed gals, the eyebrow pencil is one of the greatest inventions. Drawing in brows can create a truly authentic image - if it's done right. Before you let your artistic side flourish, run a spoolie brush through your brows to get a better idea of where the gaps are. Next, hold back your skin at your temples and carefully fill in the uneven areas by moving the pencil in the same direction as your hair. It's best to keep the strokes short and feathery or else the lines will be much too harsh. When picking out the perfect brow pencil, darker haired women should go two shades lighter than their natural hair color, while women with light brows should choose a pencil that's two hues darker.

Powder puff
After stenciling your brows, you can better define and shape them with some pressed powder and an angled brush. Using a brow kit with several neutral shades, such as the Colorscience Brow Palette, lets you blend the right color for your fine hairs. Beginning from the inner corner of your brow, use light strokes to brush the powder over your brows in your hair's natural direction. If you're nervous about overdoing it, start with a small amount of powder - you can always add more later.

Next, gently run a spoolie brush through your brows to fuse the colors and soften sharp lines for a more natural look. While you want your brows to be neat, they shouldn't be too stiff.

Hold it together
Once you've penciled and powdered your brows to perfection, you'll need to ensure they retain their shape and fullness throughout the day while preventing products from smudging. A tinted brow gel, which can be brushed on with an applicator that resembles the one you would use for mascara, will hold the hairs in place. Some brow gels are mixed with cream to add some extra thickness to your arches. If you don't need the additional color, clear gels are also an option.
