Add some holiday cheer with shimmery eyeshadow

With the Christmas season right around the corner, it's time to start planning your festive wardrobe - which means a whole lot of glitz and glimmer. Whether you're going to a friend's casual affair, a black-tie work party or a massive New Year's Eve bash, a burst of metallic shimmer on your eyes instantly takes any outfit up a notch. However, you don't want to overdo it - too much of a sparkly powder or liner can make you look like the tinsel on a Christmas tree.

Before you layer on the glitter, find some holiday cheer in these beauty tips:

Create your foundation
One way to keep you from going overboard with your shimmery eyeshadow is to start with your base. Applying a natural-looking powder in beige or taupe all over your eyelid and crease will not only help hold the eyeshadow in place, but also tone down the glitz so you're not blinding your party guests all night long.

Midas Touch
A cool metallic gold is the ultimate go-to color for any holiday party, especially if you have olive or dark skin. Apply the color from your lashline to your crease, then add a thin swipe of color underneath your lower lashes, extending it from the inner to outer corners. If you want to look ethereal and effortless, line your top and lower lashlines with a blue-hued silver eyeshadow, then add specks of gold on the inside lids and corners. Layering mascara on the lashes will ensure that your eyes remain the center of attention.

Silver smoke
For a festive take on the traditional smoky eye, switch out the gray eyeshadow for a silvery metallic one. If you want a more subtle effect, makeup artist Carmindy told Cosmopolitan that a cream-based eyeshadow can be blended so it gives off a seamless sheen.

Play it cool
If you're not up for lining your whole eyes in shimmery shades, try applying an eyeshadow in a sparkly silver or a pearly white to only the corners of your eyes, which will instantly make your eyes pop. Makeup blogger Michelle Phan told Teen Vogue that she suggests taking a tip from South Korea's current K-pop fashion trend and lining your lower lashline with a glittery shadow in a neutral tone.

Pre-game formula
When you're exhausted by your non-stop seasonal shindigs, take some time to freshen up before your next holiday get-together and treat your bleary eyes with the Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Eye Gel, which uses caffeine to give your party peepers the boost they need.
