Debuting orchid: How Pantone's prediction can transform your look

Now that a new year is right around the corner, it's time to brush up on upcoming trends in the world of fashion. As the makeup industry is nothing without colors, it's essential for every good artist to pay attention to which pigments are being featured in major magazines and on the faces of our favorite celebrities. What better way is there to gain inspiration than by flipping through Vogue or Allure in your free time?

The science of color in fashion
Although this method of scoping out the newest fads is often quick and very simple to do, The Chicago Tribune rightfully pointed out how Pantone, the universal color authority, helps every industry strategize for the upcoming year by releasing the next big shade. This year, for instance, makeup artistry will be inundated with the varying imaginative hues of orchid - purples, pinks, fuchsias and blues.

Everything from home decor to lip color is influenced by the color of the year. Major design firms will begin releasing marketing strategies that involve our subconscious connections to the purples we will begin seeing en masse in every fashionable venue. Runway shows will feature orchid attire, makeup artists will begin incorporating different shades of purple into their looks and as you walk down the street, you will undoubtedly see swathes of the color dotting billboards and featured in posters.

Heralding the royal purple
Last year, the color was emerald. We are still experiencing the long-lasting effects of Pantone's predictions, which the source reported are based on marketing forecasts and cultural indicators. For you makeup gurus, this is an excellent time to start dreaming up ways that orchid can be used in unison with its complementary shades, such as gray, beige and taupe.

For brown-eyed beauties, this is certainly your year. Men and women who have natural browns and golden flecks in their irises will be the perfect models for this shade as it naturally enhances these colors. Women, especially, should try adding flashes of fuchsia to their wardrobe. Nail colors, for example, such as CND Nail Colour - Bolds in purple, will add a contrasting pop to every day outfits. As this shade will be featured more and more as 2014 approaches, feel free to try your hand at the purple lip - a trend that is beginning to outpace the traditional reds for this holiday season.
