Although the smoky eye has graced faces in fashion magazines for generations, it's undergoing a chic permutation for the upcoming spring season. According to Independent Woman, the smudged, laid-back look, featuring a deep black pencil and a splash of gray to deepen the mystery is being rendered with a "punk" edge, giving you all the glam without the elegance.
How it's different
The original look is meant to be messy, but it typically features a winged liner to give you a little refinement in all of the smudged chaos. Without that control factor, the smoke effect is left to spread high and wide, depending on how dramatic you'd like the finished look to be.
With the Colorescience Mineral Eye Shadow Palette - Seductive Smoke, use the black shadow and start with a broad stroke across your upper lid to set the base. Then, with either your finger or a cotton swab, gently push the pigment up over your lid to diffuse the color. Then, with either the gray or the pink, blend out from the inside corner of your eye. For a little extra drama, line your lower lid with the black shadow and diffuse it in the same way.
