How to rock a ponytail

How to rock a ponytail

One of the easiest updos to replicate that will perfectly highlight your face is the high ponytail. You can refine the ponytail to make the look more sleek or tease the hair for a sexier look. Either way, a ponytail can make you look perfectly put-together in a pinch.

The sleek look
For a chic variation of the ponytail, start by straightening your hair by either blow-drying it or using a ceramic flat iron, according to Vogue. Next, divide your hair in half from ear to ear. Secure the front half of your hair in place. Gather the back section of the hair into a ponytail at eye level or slightly higher on your head. Take the front portion out of the clip and brush out. Apply a texturizing formula like the Steiner Abundance Volumizing Spray to the roots of the hair and brush through the hair with your fingers.

Combine the top section of the hair with the ponytail by adding another elastic. For even more texture at the top of your hair, pull a few strands gently out of the ponytail at the sides and top of your head. To complete the look, take a small portion of hair from the underside of the ponytail and wrap around the elastic, securing with a bobby pin underneath.

The sexy look
For a sexier nighttime hair style, making sure the hair is as sleek and straight as possible isn't as important. If you have very curly hair, you will want to get rid of any tight curls before starting, but this look will work with naturally wavy hair. Start by using the same texturizing spray, spritzing over all of the hair. Separate a 3-inch portion in the middle of your hair. Taking a 1/2-inch wide strip of hair 3 inches from your forehead, begin teasing your hair by running a comb from halfway up the length down to the head. Use a hairspray like the Steiner Stay Put Extra Firm Finishing Spray to secure the teasing.

Continue in 1/2-inch strips towards the crown of your head. Pull the top layer of teasing back and lightly run a comb over to smooth. Next, pull all of your hair tightly into a ponytail. Ideally, your hair should have more volume at the top. To tease the ponytail, pick up a section about 3 inches wide and place the comb on the underside about halfway down the hair. Run the comb up to the ponytail to tease. Continue to tease small sections of the ponytail for your desired look.
