Splashing through the waves, poring through your latest beach read or enjoying some late-afternoon drinks on the pier make vacation days sweet - but what isn't so fun looking in the mirror at home later and discovering a brutal sunburn.
The stinging sensation, the sensitivity, the peeling - it can all make you feel like you just want to stay in bed with the blinds closed for the rest of the summer.
Fortunately, there are some easy ways you can treat sunburns and ease the pain. Here are three of our top remedies:
1. Soothe scorched skin with a milk bath
Rich in nourishing proteins and vitamins, milk can hydrate sunburned skin, ease irritation and reduce pain. Draw a cool or lukewarm bath - too hot a temp will sting skin further - and add a few capfuls of the ELEMIS Skin Nourishing Milk Bath. In addition to a rich Milk Protein base, it contains natural plant collagen to keep skin soft and supple. Slowly sink in and enjoy a blissful escape from your sunburn while you also promote the healing process.
2. Trap moisture within
The American Academy of Dermatology recommends taking frequent cool showers to help ease the pain of sunburns. Reduce the water pressure to a gentle flow, and then use the ELEMIS Skin Nourishing Shower Cream to hydrate and soften sunburned skin. And when you get out of the shower, the AAD advises drying off gently but leaving a little water on the surface of the skin, and then applying a moisturizer to "trap the water" in - choose the ELEMIS Skin Nourishing Body Cream for the job, as it contains organic oat extract and milk protein to soothe and soften.
3. Choose protective clothing
Protect sunburned skin from being damaged even further by being conscious of the clothes you wear, the AAD urges, and suggests choosing tightly woven fabrics that block light. Before heading out for a while, or going to bed, apply a thin layer of Ionithermie Lait Pour Le Corps for cooling relief.
Treat a sunburn effectively and soothe stinging skin with these easy remedies.
