Fall into autumn with these makeup trends

The leaves aren't the only thing changing this fall. As the weather patterns morph, so does your makeup palette.

While summer was a time for bright cheeks and flirty lip gloss, fall ushers in muted hues and classic looks for a more edgy vibe. But don't get too caught up in the drama - the season might bring cooler weather and sleek styles, but fall beauty and skincare trends will keep you warm through those chilly nights.

Take a look at the fall makeup must-haves and jump right in with the perfect beauty products

Merlot or shiraz?
One of the biggest trends on the Fall 2013 catwalk was wine-stained lips, a look that's part vampy, part haute couture and a touch of Old Hollywood glamor. But how do you achieve this incredibly sultry look without hitting the bottle?

First, find the right shade for your skintone. Fair-skinned ladies should opt for rich berry hues or a deep, deep red, while women with medium or olive skin should go with red-based maroon or burgundy shades. Women with darker skin can try out a smoky purple or a deep plum.

Make your lips look more "worn-in" by applying the lipstick with your fingertips. If you want that extra pop, use a lip brush to pile on the red, or layer on the shine with a berry lipgloss, such as the Bliss Fabulips Glossy Lip Balm in Vanilla Mint. However you wear this hot new color, just member to blot your lips well before you walk out the door so the makeup doesn't bleed past the lines of your lips. A matching pencil liner will also ensure that your lip color stays intact.

In the nude
If you're not one for red lipstick, don't fret - nude lips are also making a comeback this fall. Paired with long lashes, this muted hue offers a casual daytime look, while bold eyeshadow and nearly-there lips make for a dramatic nighttime effect.

To achieve flawless nude lips, first apply a matching lip liner to plump them up. If you're opting for a gloss, trying adding some liquid foundation to your lips to hold the makeup in place.

Fair-skinned women should use a peachy or light golden tone. Olive-skinned women should opt for a more rosy shade, while dark-skinned women look best in warmer hues, such as bronze or a light caramel. The most important aspect of rocking nude lips is to avoid the "washed-out" look, so finding the right hue for your skintone is a must.

Smokin' eyes
After experimenting with vibrant eyeshadows all summer-long, it's time to get in touch with your darker side. Smoky eyes are incredibly sexy and add just enough oomph to any outfit. Instead of going the traditional black route, try a paletteof dark and medium browns for a truly fall-inspired look.

Outline the bottom and top lash lines in a deep brown, then use a medium brown to contour the rest of your eyelid. Sweep a pearly shade at the corner of your eyes to make them seem larger, and if you're really daring, add a touch of golden glam at the brow for a softened rock 'n' roll vibe.

Once you apply the eyeshadow, smudge the line along your bottom lid for the full smoky effect.

The cat's meow
If going all-out on the eyeshadow and liner is not your thing, a sleek cat-eye is the perfect alternative. The classic '60s style is all the rage this fall, and luckily, it's a look that can be dressed up or dressed down. Use a liquid liner to perfect the wing effect, then add a coat of light brown eyeshadow on your lid for some depth.

Treat your skin
One word: moisturize.

Don't be caught high and dry this season - keep your skin from getting flaky and chaffed by staying fresh and hydrated. For the colder months, oil-based lotions and moisturizers work best. The Elmis Maximum Moisture Day Cream will ensure smooth skin even during those blustery autumn days, while the brand's Pro-Collagen Oxygenating Night Cream regenerates your skin cells while you sleep.

Of course, keeping your skin as clean as possible will also cut down on pesky breakouts. Face wipes such as FreshSkin Make-Up Away Cleansing Wipes will help get rid of all your unwanted makeup at the end of the day, leaving your pores feeling fresh.

Nail it
The autumn season means no more neon nail color. Luckily, there's a lot more fashionable shades for you to try on. A deep hunter green is a classy alternative to plain black, while burnt orange substitutes for the coral you wore all summer long. If you're feeling a bit mysterious, try a shimmering metallic gray.

The hottest colors
Whatever trends you decide to try on this season, make sure to stick to the season's luscious color palette. Find your inspiration from the changing leaves and add some shocking golds, muted oranges, soft greens and glossy browns into your daily beauty routine.
