The next time you go for a haircut, leave your hair salon with a bang - literally.
Bangs can up the "wow" factor on any hairstyle, so it's no surprise that they're featured as one of the hottest fall trends. With the right cut for your face shape and beauty products for your hair type, you'll be able to rock your favorite bangs style this season.
One of the most dramatic looks to any haircut is the blunt bang. Whether cut straight across the forehead or shaped with blended edges, blunt bangs give off a retro '60s vibe while also staying completely current.
Deciding which blunt-bang cut is right for you depends on your face shape. Oval-shaped faces can wear just about any blunt bang, while heart-shaped faces tend to look best with blunt bangs that are framed by slightly longer edges. Those with round-shaped faces need blunt bangs that are gently arched to keep the face from looking too full. If you want to go for the ultimate striking effect, cut the bangs right at the browbone. Longer, eye-grazing bangs soften the look, but not without sacrificing the drama.
For those who have thin hair and want a soft and romantic look, wispy bangs are an incredibly feminine update to any basic haircut. They can be worn asymmetrical and pushed to the side, or chopped up for a harder, street-edge vibe, which works perfectly for heart-shaped faces.
If you have thicker hair or are nervous about taking the bang plunge, then the side-swept bang might be the right look for you. Elegant, endlessly trendy and simple to maintain, side-swept bangs are an easy transition into bangs if you've never tried them before and they accentuate just about every face shape. However, not all side-swept bangs are created equal.
Those with medium to thick hair should opt for face-framing layers, while those with square or heart-shaped faces look best with long, wispy side bangs that frame the face.
Styling the right way
Although bangs instantly boost any basic haircut, they do require some daily TLC - particularly when it comes to styling. While side-swept bangs only need to be lightly blow dried, straight across and wispy bangs need to be styled just right or else they're in danger of falling limp and flat. Before blow drying your bangs, spray a light yet firm styling product, such as the Steiner Jelly Whip Styling Gel, onto a round brush to ensure that they stay in place throughout the day. Once your hair is dry, wet your fingertips with a spritz of the styling spray and gently finger comb the edge of your bangs to give them a piece-y look.
