How to find the right foundation

How to find the right foundation

Foundation is the core of every girl's beauty regimen, so it's crucial to choose the right one. With so many formulas and shades available, though, selecting this makeup product can be challenging. Is powder or liquid better suited to your skin type? How do you know which will give you flawless coverage? What's the best way to match your foundation to your complexion?

Before you get overwhelmed, consider these tips for helping you pick out the right product:

Powder, liquid or cream?
The first thing to decide is which formula makes the most sense. While a powder can offer a matte finish for those who have particularly oily skin, it can also accentuate any flakes. If your skin is on the dryer side, it's best to opt for a hydrating formula, like the Colorescience Sheer Creme Foundation, which nourishes skin with Vitamins A, C, and E while camouflaging any imperfections. Some may find that a liquid concealer with illuminating particles can really help to brighten up a dull complexion. However, liquid formulas aren't always the best if your skin tends to look oily. If you prefer liquid and are prone to breakouts, be sure to look for an oil-free formula. Also, be wary of powders if you have any concerns in regards to signs of aging, as the particles of these products can tend to settle in wrinkles and fine lines.

A perfect match
First things first: You need to identify the undertones in your skin to ensure your foundation complements your complexion. The three main types of tints to a skin are warm, neutral and cool. One of the easiest ways to figure out what undertones describe your skin is to look at the inside of your wrist. If the color is more of a pinkish cast and your veins veer toward the blue spectrum, you have a cool skin tone. Alternatively, a golden tint with more greenish veins indicates you have warm undertones. Do you fall somewhere in between? Then your skin is neutral.

Now that you know what undertones you have, consider a product that has the same tints. An ivory foundation may be an ideal choice if you have fair skin, but there's a big difference between one with a yellowish cast and one that has a pink base. It's best to choose two or three shades that come close and apply them in natural light to determine which one matches best. When you're testing out different shades, you may want to apply them along the jawline. This will give you a good indication as to whether that color will blend in seamlessly with your neck.

Very good blog! Do you have any hints for aspiring writers? I'm hoping to start my own blog soon but I'm a little lost on everything. Would you recommend starting with a free platform like Wordpress or go for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I'm completely confused .. Any tips? Many thanks!
