Trends the Golden Globes taught us

For most people, January means that award season is upon us. In the beauty world, this time of the year is for the fashionistas who strutted their stuff across the red carpet at the 2014 Golden Globes. As always, their dedication to style and flair are framing some of the beauty trends for the coming year.

After all, when you gather a group of trend-setting men and women together, one of the easiest ways to determine what the next big thing in fashion is to pay attention to the similarities in the room. According to US Magazine, for instance, celebrity attendees of the Golden Globes drew attention in a collection of beauty trends that stood out from the rest, a few of which are highlighted below:

  • Big, bold brows. Thought to be a carry-over from the fall, strong, prominent brow shapes are still holding steady into this season. The source reported that Tracey Levy, celebrity makeup artist, helped Mila Kunis stand out by filling in the natural outline of her brow with taupe pigment, similar to the Colorescience Brow Palette. Levy's inspiration: "I pictured Bianca Jagger going to Studio 54 after a posh society get together." Sofia Vergara and Lizzy Caplan were also rocking a bold brow look.
  • Red, red lips. Another trend going strong is the blood-red pout. The source noted that Lupita Nyong'o stayed true to the iconic lip look by styling her makeup after the rose hue of her Ralph Lauren gown. Jennifer Lawrence, Taylor Swift and Cate Blanchett were also sporting red lips.
  • A pop of blue. Although often reminiscent of the wild '70s, the splash of sapphire shadow chosen by Allison Williams highlighted her natural crystal blue eyes. Her makeup artist, Coleen Campbell-Olwell, mixed together navy and gray to achieve her look, which bore no resemblance to your favorite Madonna music videos. This style was well-received and very modern. According to the source, Kate Mara and Kaley Cuoco also rocked blue lids as they made their way down the red carpet.
  • The higher the hair... the closer to long-lasting memories. US Magazine reported that Amber Heard's hair do gave her up to four more inches in height. All of her long, blonde locks were piled onto her head with an elegant airiness. Nothing looked too tight or loose, and although the source indicated that there were multiple layers involved, the finished look gives the illusion of being remarkably easy to accomplish. With just a little Steiner Stay Put Extra Firm Finishing Spray 200 ml, it could be you!
