With all the time you'll spend wearing a swimsuit on your cruise, it can be super convenient to get a bikini wax prior to your trip - you'll save so much time not having to shave! But the idea of getting a bikini wax can be intimidating.

Well not to fear, we've got the tips right here! Here's what you need to know about getting a bikini wax in preparation for your cruise:

Before the waxing appointment

Let the hair grow out
It's important to let the hair in your bikini area grow out for 2-3 weeks before getting it waxed. If the hair is too short, the wax won't catch it. A good rule of thumb is to let the hair grow to 1/4 inch in length.

Exfoliate before waxing

The night before your bikini wax, gently exfoliate the area in the shower. This helps loosen up and remove dead skin cells so you can get the closest wax possible. Try the ELEMIS Frangipani Monoi Salt Glow - this gentle polishing scrub with natural hibiscus flower petals gently exfoliates dead cells to help brighten skin too.

Be conscious of timing

After waxing, there will likely be some redness and sensitivity in the area, which can last for 1-2 days. If it's your first-time waxing, you may want to make an appointment for 2-3 days before you leave for your cruise to give the redness time to dissipate. Typically, it takes about two to three weeks until you'll see stubble growing back in.

During the waxing appointment

Wear loose, breathable clothing. There's nothing worse than getting waxed and then having to wear tight clothing that causes you to chafe. Wear soft, loose and breathable shorts or pants to your appointment.

Prepare your self

Taking ibuprofen 30-45 minutes before your appointment can help reduce pain during the waxing as well as inflammation.

After the waxing appointment

Avoid showers and baths immediately after. Avoid taking hot showers or baths for 1-2 days, as the heat can aggravate the skin.

Skip the sweaty gym sesh

In the same vein, skip the gym in the day or two after getting waxed. Waxing causes your pores to open, which makes them more vulnerable to infection, so steer clear of getting sweaty.

There's no reason to fear bikini waxes - just follow our tips and enjoy smooth skin on your cruise!
