Want to avoid the flu? Beware of gas pump handles

During flu season, it is especially important to wash your hands frequently and be mindful of the surfaces you touch. According to a study recently conducted by Kimberley-Clark Professional, gas pump handles have the highest levels of contamination.

"People do not realize the amount of contamination they are exposed to going to work each day and doing everyday things like filling their gas tank or riding on an escalator," said Dr. Charles Gerba, a microbiology professor at the University of Arizona.

Other surfaces that ranked high on the list of contaminated areas include mailbox handles, escalator rails and ATM buttons. Most people will have to touch these surfaces at one point or another, so the key to flu prevention is regular hand washing.

Many soaps can dry out the hands, which can be exacerbated during the cold, dry months of fall and winter. Try out the Mandara Spa Honeymilk Dreams Gentle Hand Wash, which will leave your hands clean and smooth to the touch. Hand wash is an essential skin care product that increases in importance when trying to reduce exposure to germs.
