Summer is finally here, which calls for long days at the beach and wistful evenings spent outside in the company of great friends. Of course, the warmer weather often means showing more skin and putting our best faces forward.
To get the most up-to-date tips and advice on how to stay gorgeous while enjoying the sultrier time of year, we sat down and spoke with makeup artist Josephine Fusco.
What do you think is the most important beauty tip to consider during the warm weather season?
The most important beauty tip for the summer is SPF. I can't stress how important it is that you make it part of your daily regimen every day, especially during the summer season. There are so many [ways] to incorporate SPF into your daily regimen because nowadays SPF [comes] in all different products, from primers, to moisturizers [to] bronzers. This way, you can stay protected from those harmful rays and still look beautiful.
In the summer, eyeshadow tends to run and smudge. Any tips for keeping it on all day long at the beach or on a daytime date?
I always recommend an eye primer, reason being that it holds the shadow in place and eliminates the creasing. But if you're looking for something that is quick and easy, you can find many shadows now that are either a cream or stick [and] are waterproof. Those will stay and last all day which is great.
In the winter we're told to obsessively moisturize in order to keep skin soft, and most ladies know they should continue doing so in the summer as well. However, should women consider changing up their facial lotion during the hotter months?
Absolutely! During the hotter months, we tend to release more oils. There are a few options. I tell my clients to start with a facial serum that will help keep those oils at bay and revive the skin. This way, less moisturizer is needed. And of course [it's important to] add a light moisturizer over that. Sometimes you can skip the moisturizer and go straight to the facial primer, which will leave the skin smooth and supple.
Any anti-aging skin tips to recommend during this time of year?
Never stop using facial serums. I love them - reason being they really penetrate deep into the layers of this skin [and] they go where moisturizers can't. Don't be afraid to exfoliate, even in summer.
What's your favorite summer makeup look?
My favorite summer look is a [glowing] bronzed look. When bronzer is placed on the right areas of the face - usually from the temples to the apple of the cheeks (C-Formation)…it gives such beautiful glow. Pair that up with some gorgeous eyeliner that has a shimmer to it, loads of mascara and just the right gloss.
