Headed for the mistletoe this holiday season? If you're planning on puckering up at that upcoming party, you should make sure your lips are dressed for the occasion. Color matters, but so does the texture of your lips and your lip product, as well as the rest of your ensemble.
Fashionable fall hues like oxblood and raspberry will add instant glamour to any holiday outfit. These deep berry hues look great on warm and cool skin tones, and add an unexpected pop of color to your makeup palette. Classic red is a perfectly festive color for the holidays, and matches almost everything.
Glossy or matte?
You should also consider whether you want your lip color to be matte, glossy or even have a little shimmer in it. If your lipstick doesn't have the glittering finish you want, you might want to top it off with a plumping gloss like the Bliss Fabulips Instant Lip Plumper. This product has a subtle sparkle that makes your lips look even more luscious.
If you prefer a matte finish, opt for a lip stain. These makeup products create a slightly less dressy look than a shiny finish, but you have to make sure your lips are in good condition first - chapped or dry lips will not allow an even application of color because dry skin will absorb more of the stain. Before you apply lip stain, remove dead skin cells with an exfoliating skin care product like Bliss Fabulips Sugar Lip Scrub. The other upside to lip stain is that it's long lasting and doesn't smudge once it's in place.
Don't over-do it
Statement lips are a great way to dress up any holiday party outfit, but you should think of them as another accessory and adjust your outfit accordingly. That means wearing a chunky or bold statement necklace, earrings and a dramatic dress with a bold red lip might be a bit much.
The same is true for the rest of your makeup. Generally, the best makeup looks emphasize one feature - only one! If you are going for bold lips, pair them with neutral eye makeup so the two looks don't compete.
Cleaning up after the color
If you're planning on wearing neutral lips the next day or want to try on a new color, you can remove all the pigment from your lips with the Bliss Fabulips Foaming Lip Cleanser and enjoy a flawless palette for your next look.
